Who We Are

What is Extensive Reading?

Extensive Reading is an approach to language learning that encourages students to read large amounts of easy, enjoyable material. Instead of analyzing short, difficult texts, learners choose books or articles that interest them—often graded readers designed for their level. The focus is on reading for pleasure and fluency, not on studying every word. This method helps learners build vocabulary, improve comprehension, and develop confidence, while making reading a natural and enjoyable habit. About ERA Italy

The Extensive Reading Association Italy (ERA Italy) is a community of teachers, researchers, and language enthusiasts who believe in the power of reading for pleasure. Born out of the 2024 online event “Reading Opens Doors” and formally established in Macerata in 2025, ERA Italy works to bring the benefits of extensive reading into classrooms and learning spaces across the country. The association is supported by the Extensive Reading Foundation, which connects ERA Italy to a wider international network of educators and projects.
